Claire Weaver

Tell us a little bit about you?

Hello! My name is Claire and I'm a Melbourne-based artist, originally from Brisbane. I have a background in Environmental Management and a part-time job in that field, but when it's a 'non-work' day for me, you'll find me trying to squeeze in some valuable time in my little art studio - a spare room (now full of art mess) in the home that I share with my husband and two children.

What is your favourite drink?

It seems I was destined to live in Melbourne as I do love coffee! But I'm probably the least discerning coffee drinker you will ever meet!

What does your day look like as an artist?

No two days are the same and, like many artists, I'm trying to fit art in amongst everything else that needs doing. On the two days a week I'm able to dedicate to my art practice, I'm always racing against the clock during the hours the kids are at school. On a blissful day, this can look like some solid time painting at the easel. Other days it is a bit more admin-focussed, and may involve trips to the art shop, framers or post office. Some days I have a really strong urge to paint and other days I don't, so I generally let those feelings guide me either to the easel or elsewhere.

What inspired you to start painting?

By the time my youngest was about to start primary school, the desire to do something just for myself had been building for a little while. I took some long service leave and that time away from my job, with both kids at school, was a beautiful opportunity to return to some creative pursuits like dancing and art; the things I loved doing most growing up and strongly identified with. I had always enjoyed various art courses and workshops over the years since high school but this rare and wonderful opportunity to engage in a daily art practice really got me hooked and established one of the best and healthiest habits I've ever had. I'm so grateful I've found my way back to it, and getting to share my art with others is the icing on the cake.

Where can we purchase your work?

I'm currently represented by Art to Art Gallery in Melbourne, and I also have art available at Gifts at Teacup in Roma, Queensland. You can purchase my art there, or via various other galleries where I exhibit my work from time to time as part of group exhibitions or art awards; I generally share details of these via my socials. You can also always purchase art directly from me. I share my artworks via instragram and facebook and if you see something that resonates with you or are after a commission piece, please feel free to get in touch! I love seeing my art bring joy to collectors and really appreciate all the support I've received since embarking on this art adventure.
