Tell us a little bit about you?
Hi I’m Emma, I paint with acrylic from my home studio in Brisbane.
I adore colour and have always loved nature, flowers and gardening, so it’s no surprise that they are some of my biggest sources of inspiration.
I love to paint colourful floral arrangements, but I am particularly drawn to Australian Natives for their unique character and charm.
What is your favourite drink?
Matcha latte with coconut and almond milk; it’s the perfect drink to start my morning and get energised for a day of painting!
I also love a strongly brewed cup of chai tea. Most of my painting sessions start off with a good cup of tea!
What inspired you to start painting/drawing?
Since a very young age I’ve always loved to draw and paint! Throughout primary and highschool art was always my favourite subject, and I often took painting classes or crafty workshops. I studied animation at University and did a lot of digital illustration. After graduating I felt drawn towards painting flowers and using traditional art mediums again, particularly acrylics. Paired with my love of nature and gardening, painting bright floral works just made a lot of sense for me!
What advice would you give other artists/creatives starting out?
Paint the things you like and what brings you joy! Focus more on the painting process more than the results. Look for inspiration everywhere. Don’t forget to have fun and enjoy making art.
I would also recommend buying decent quality materials and paints over cheaper ones if you can, even if you just start with the basic colours. I have found that working with better quality materials makes the painting process smoother and more enjoyable.
